You can start by using your favorite search engine to compile a list of companies you're interested in and that you know sell insurance to your area. Then, gather your basic car information and a list of all accidents, driving history incidents and auto insurance claims you've had in the last five years. Finally, it's just a matter of filling out nearly identical forms on each of your prospective providers' websites. It won't take long, and it's the best way to get the best deal.
